Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley is an activist, a legislator, a survivor, and the first woman of color to be elected to Congress from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Throughout her career, Congresswoman Pressley has fought to ensure that those closest to the pain are closest to the power – driving and informing
policymaking. In Congress, she has been a champion for justice and healing: reproductive justice, economic justice, justice for immigrants, seniors, workers, justice survivors of sexual violence, LGBTQ+ people, formerly and currently incarcerated individuals, and healing for those who have experienced trauma. She has also turned her experience living with alopecia into action, becoming a leading voice fighting to raise awareness and support for the alopecia community across the nation.
Congresswoman Pressley currently serves on the House Committee on Oversight and Reform and the House Committee on Financial Services. She co-chairs the Reproductive Freedom Caucus and the Haiti Caucus, and was elected to the powerful House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee. Prior to being elected to Congress, she served on the Boston City Council for eight years, and was the first woman of color elected to the council in its 100-year history.
“With a hostile White House, Republican Congress, and far-right Supreme Court majority hell-bent on legislating away the existence of our trans siblings, unapologetic, progressive leaders must stand in the gap.
This is not the time for our movement to moderate our aspirations. We’re not just asking for survival, we are fighting for queer liberation. I’m proud to receive the endorsement of the Christopher Street Project.
Together, we can work to build a more just America that affirms the dignity, humanity, and safety of all trans and LGBTQIA+ people.”
