Congresswoman Delia Ramirez is a progressive Democrat representing IL-3 as the first and only Latina Congresswoman in the Midwest. The daughter of working-class Guatemalan immigrants, Delia Ramirez is an accomplished legislator, social service director, community leader, and coalition builder who has dedicated her life and career advocating for working families. She currently sits on the Committee on Homeland Security and the Veteran Affairs Committee where she serves as ranking member of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations.
Rep. Ramirez leads in Congress with the same people-centered values that she brought during her leadership as an IL State Representative. In her first two terms, she has passed legislation with bipartisan support to help student veterans, is co-leading the Dream and Promise Act, and introduced legislation that gives tenants the right to organize. Until recently, Rep. Ramirez was the only Congressperson in a mixed-status marriage, and fights for the rights of DREAMers like her husband, Boris, and for comprehensive immigration reform.
She is committed to fighting for housing justice, healthcare for all, public education, community safety, community-centered economic development, and for the rights and safety of women and the LGBTQ+ community.
“I am proud to be endorsed by Christopher Street Project, an organization that is unapologetically fighting to ensure that our trans community members are fully seen, heard, and respected. I reject any narratives that attempt to vilify and dehumanize our trans siblings. I stand firmly on an agenda that fully affirms everyone’s gender identity by providing equal protections under the law, full access to healthcare, and freedom from discrimination and violence for all trans people.”
