Dr. Adam Hamawy is a father, husband, humanitarian, surgeon, veteran, and small business owner. Dr. Adam Hamawy immigrated to New Jersey with his family when he was just seven months old. He grew up lower-middle class in the district and earned an ROTC scholarship to pay for his education at Rutgers. He joined the New Jersey Army National Guard and worked his way through medical school, also at Rutgers. He served as a combat trauma surgeon in Iraq and became a Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army. In Iraq, one of his patients was now-Senator Tammy Duckworth, who credits him with saving her life.
Since completing his service, Dr. Adam Hamawy has worked in emergency rooms in New Jersey and spent the last decade building a successful medical practice in the Princeton area. He has also dedicated more than 30 years volunteering to treat patients in war and disaster zones, including in Bosnia during their genocide, Sudan, Colombia, Belize, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Turkey, and Jordan. In 2024 and 2025, he went on medical missions to Gaza, where he was trapped with his colleagues when Israel seized the Rafah Crossing. He refused to leave until all his colleagues, including US green card holders and other nationals were guaranteed safe passage alongside the American citizens in the group. He was Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman’s State of the Union guest in 2025.
