Congresswoman Katherine Clark is a force for change, determined legislator, and advocate for her constituents in Massachusetts’s Fifth Congressional District. Since her first election, Katherine has fought for women, children, and families, ensuring that the issues families talk about around their kitchen tables are on the table in Washington. Her leadership is recognized by her colleagues, who elected Katherine as Democratic Whip – making her the highest-ranking woman in Congress and just the second woman in history to hold the position.
Katherine believes in using the power of politics as a means of helping people — a guiding principle she has engaged at every level of government. Before her election to Congress, Katherine served as General Counsel for the Massachusetts Office of Child Care Services, Chief of the Policy Division for the Massachusetts Attorney General, a member of the Melrose school committee, and in both the house and senate branches of the Massachusetts legislature.
Every day, Katherine uses her position in leadership to fight for high quality, affordable child care, paid family leave, safer schools and expanded educational access for vulnerable students, access to health care for women, and ending wage discrimination. She is committed to electing more Democrats to the House to advocate for the same values. Katherine is a graduate of St. Lawrence University, Cornell University School of Law, and the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. She lives in Revere with her husband and has three children.
“I’m deeply grateful for the advocacy and support of the Christopher Street Project — as a Member of Congress and as the mom of a young woman who had the strength to say: ‘I’m Riley, and I’m trans.’ We will not allow Republicans to get away with their cruel, bigoted efforts to scapegoat and divide Americans. Together, we will keep fighting for a future where dignity is not debated, rights are not denied, and every person can live freely and without fear of discrimination.”
