THIS IS THE

STORY OF A MOVEMENT

The fight for trans dignity and justice has never been more urgent

Together, we are building a future where trans rights are never up for negotiation.

The Christopher Street Project works to elect  fierce champions for trans rights to public office, hold elected officials accountable on their commitments to trans people, and fight back against attacks on our very existence.

Our name pays homage to the legacy of trans people at the forefront of the gay liberation movement and the Christopher Street Project’s Executive Director, Tyler Hack’s great uncle, Marc Scheer who was beaten up by police in the Stonewall Riots. The 1969 Stonewall Riots, on Christopher Street, showed the United States that queer and trans people can’t be erased — because the more they tried to silence us, the louder we got.

But 56 years later, our fight is more urgent than ever. Trump’s Republican Party continues its onslaught of attacks against the trans community, especially kids:

  • Republicans spent $215 million on ads bullying and sexualizing trans kids.
  • When Rep. Sarah McBride was elected the first transgender member of Congress, Republicans wasted time and taxpayer dollars banning their own colleague from using any federal bathroom.

Taking a Stand

There is an unprecedented and growing attack on trans individuals and the need for political power behind the trans community is more urgent than ever before. Christopher Street Project is the only organization laser-focused on providing supporters in Congress with effective pro-trans messaging and ensuring that more pro-trans politicians are elected to Congress.

We are a new generation of leaders for the LGBTQ+ rights movement. We are not restrained by the red tape of other institutional organizations and take strategic action quickly in a ruthless pursuit of our mission and challenging the status quo that continues to harm transgender individuals.

Every day, Christopher Street Project is in the halls of Congress, educating and working alongside our representatives to ensure they are responsible and effective advocates for the transgender community. We need more leaders who will relentlessly fight for trans people and stand up to Republican bullies — that’s why we are committed to building the political power necessary to elect a pro-trans Congress.

We stand on the shoulders of giants and are carving a path forward with them in mind. By 2028, Christopher Street Project will be the primary source for candidates to gain political support from the trans community, for members of Congress to rely on for messaging on trans issues, and for political media’s perspective from the trans community.
