Peggy Flanagan is a mother, public servant, and advocate for Minnesota families. Raised by a single mom in St. Louis Park, Peggy grew up relying on programs like Section 8 housing, SNAP, childcare assistance, and Medicaid while managing severe childhood asthma. A member of the White Earth Nation, Peggy is Ojibwe and Irish. She began her public service as the youngest member of the Minneapolis School Board before serving as executive director of the Children’s Defense Fund–Minnesota, where she helped lead the successful campaign to raise Minnesota’s minimum wage for the first time in a decade. She also trained thousands of grassroots organizers through Wellstone Action and advised nonprofit leaders as a partner at The Management Center.
Elected to the Minnesota House in 2015, Peggy became a leading voice on child care and education while helping found the Legislature’s People of Color and Indigenous (POCI) Caucus. Since becoming Lieutenant Governor in 2019, she has helped pass paid family and medical leave, invest in education, health care, and affordable housing, support family farms and small businesses, and protect abortion rights in Minnesota. Now running for the U.S. Senate, Peggy is focused on lowering costs for working families, defending the programs that helped her own family, and ensuring every Minnesotan has the opportunity to succeed. She lives in her hometown of St. Louis Park with her husband, Tom, their daughter, Siobhan, and their dog, Reuben, and is a proud graduate of the University of Minnesota.
