THIS IS THE STORY OF A MOVEMENT
The Christopher Street Project builds and leverages political power to make equity a reality for transgender people across the country. We work to elect fierce champions for trans rights to public office, hold Democrats accountable on their commitments to trans people, and fight back against Republican attacks on our existence.
The 1969 Stonewall Riots showed the United States that queer and trans people can’t be erased — because the more they tried to silence us, the louder we got.
But 56 years later, our fight is more urgent than ever.
Trump’s Republican Party has a sick obsession with transgender people, especially children:
Republicans spent $215 million on ads bullying and sexualizing vulnerable people.
Meanwhile, Sarah McBride was elected the first transgender member of Congress, and Republicans responded by trying to ban her from using any federal bathroom.
But instead of standing with vulnerable people, some Democrats decided to scapegoat them to score cheap political points. Others cast votes that stripped healthcare away from our nation’s military families simply because their kids are transgender.
Trump will do everything he can to legislate trans people out of existence, starting with legalizing discrimination against them — and Democrats have a moral obligation to reject these tactics and stand up for the transgender people in our communities by calling out MAGA’s invasive fixation on trans people.
